STAINED GLASS GATE PHOTOS

The branches of the gate start off as solid round steel bars that are heated in the forge oven and then hammered to a taper, curved and cut to fit with the main stalk. These pieces are ready to be cut and welded to the main stalk. At this point approximately 20 hours had already been invested in making the twigs.

  The unfinished gate.
This picture shows the bushes all welded and finished. The main frame of the gate was 1-1/2" X 3" tube steel. At this point the gate is ready for the patina finish.

Here's the frame after the finish has been applied.

  The keyhole leaf.
Here you can see the stained glass pieces in greater detail. Also the door pulls which were forged from a piece of 3/4" round bar. A old fashioned mortis dead bolt lock uses a skeleton key. I thought the leaf was a nicer finish than just a hole in the frame. Also note the blending of the branches into the stalk of the bushes.
