Copper mined in the mountains of Arizona provides both
the inspiration and the material to create this piece.
This is made from one piece of 24 oz. copper sheet. The lines
are produced by folding the sheet and hammering it flat back on itself,
then heating it to a cherry red and quenching it in water to anneal the metal
(make it soft). Then the piece is flattened back out, leaving the ridges.
The mountains are drawn on the back and hammered out using a ball peen hammer
and a leather bag full of buckshot. A little heat, some patina, there you go!
The piece is 8-3/4" high, 20" wide, and 2" deep.
